Still True - A New Straight Edge Community

Its been very quiet around here. Probably a good thing. The new site (diysearch.com) is running very smoothly, not a single problem since the launch (on May 20). Its been seeing about 1,500+ visitors a week, which is significantly down from the peak back in 2002/3 where we were seeing that in a day.

I only have myself to blame for that.

Anyway, I’m working on another side-project, one that isn’t quite as involved as Diysearch, in fact I’m not doing hardly any development for it (thanks for that goes to Joomla, a nice fork of the Mambo server product). The idea is to build a “veterans” straight edge community, which I am calling Still True.

Why bother? Well, if there’s one thing that has been true since day one of my involvment with Diysearch, when I perceive something as being missing, I don’t wait around hoping it will be filled by somone else, no, I just get excited and leap head-first into a new project, so that is what I’m doing.

If you go there now, you won’t see much of anything because I’m still working on getting platform (i.e. software) up and running. Its a nice package (Joomla) but there are tons of options and configuration choices as well as a complicated content management system tying it all together (which is very nice, but it takes some time getting up to speed with it). I also am working on some custom templates to make it look all pretty pretty.

No, this new project isn’t about excluding those that aren’t straight edge, or even those who are but haven’t been into as long as others, that would be silly now wouldn’t it? There’s been this perception of mine, that has been building for a few years now, that all of the straight edge community sites either have no focus, or are focused on the youth crew side of it, which hey, at 33, I’m no spring chicken any more, but straight edge is still a huge part of what defines my core beliefs. In fact, I’d say the older you get, the more important they become, if that is the lifestyle you choose.

So, that’s the idea behind this new project. When will it be done? Give me another week or so, and it should be ready for mass consumption.
