First Post!

Well, tonight I make with the first post. Nothing much to say. Well, actually there is a lot to say, regarding diysearch. I’ve done a hell of a lot of work lately (over the last month and a half) to get the site back on its feet. Basically it has been a complete and total re-write of everything.
I’m happy with it, in that I ditched the old system, which was the root of all of the problems, and the core of the instability. Hey, I’m not a slouch in the software development area, and instead of relying on some shoddy open source software, I decided to write my own platform. It is coming along nicely and its flexibility and simplicity means that when I do launch the site, keeping it stable will be a very simple thing.
Aside from the total re-write (and all of the work that is involved with that, hey, if you’ve ever done it, you know what I’m talking about, and since I am a professional software developer by day… there were no shortcuts in the development, testing and roll out of this thing either) there have been other changes, significantly good changes. For example, I’ve brought on an editor in chief. This person will be responsible for all of the content that will be folded into diysearch, primarily through the incorporation of the Wiki. Yes, instead of trying mash the search engine with the content that was included in the old site, I’ve broken it out two separate but equal entities. I wanted a more simple division. Folks like the simplicity of the search engine, and I got many an email demonstrating this, which is why when the full site is launched you will notice the search engine (the main site) will just be the search engine, without any thing cluttering it up. The Wiki will serve as a central repository for how-to’s, articles, promotional material (for other people’s projects), reviews, etc.
I think keeping it clean is the best way to go.
So anyway, stay tuned. This place is coming back. I’m excited. Now, I need to get some shut eye before I pass out
